How to calculate the fertile days to get pregnant?

A mature egg, ovum, is able to be fertilized within 24 hours from being released from the ovary. Sperm on the other hand can be active for up to a week and for this reason it is so important to calculate properly when the fertile days are.

Depends on the cycle length. Traditionally we’re told in school that you ovulate on day 14 but this is not necessarily the case because ovulation can move around all over the place. We can have an earlier ovulation or a later ovulation – depending on what’s going on in our lives so it’s really important not to focus on that day. What we do know is that ovulation lasts for about 12 to 24 hours. When you think of it that way, you think how does anyone ever get pregnant because that’s such a short time but the life of the sperm is a lot longer so sperm can live in the vagina for five days, possibly even seven so actually your fertile window is a good number of days. Potentially around seven days in total so that gives you a really good indication of your fertile time and so the best thing to do is work out when you’re ovulating and ideally have sex every two to three days so you can make sure you cut off that time.

The most fertile days for a woman would be 4 to 5 days leading to ovulation time. That is because sperm lives in the genital tract for around 4 to 5 days but it is more capable of fertilizing about 3 to 4 days. If there is sperm in genital tract 3 to 4 days before ovulation takes place then sperm can detect and fertilize the egg if that has been released . As I said sperm can live up to 4-5 days but on the other hand eggs can only survive for 24 hours so more frequent intercourse must take place before ovulation than in the time after ovulation.

The most fertile days are the days 2, 3, 4 and 5 before ovulation. The fertile window roughly opens 6 days before ovulation, it peaks around day 3 before ovulation. Obviously the day of ovulation is still a good day and one day after in the clinical studies have shown that are also still good days for conception but the best chance and the highest chance are the days before ovulation – particularly around day 3, so these are the most fertile days and is the so-called “fertile window”. Of course that doesn’t exclude the chance of getting pregnant the other days but if you look at the fertile window chart or the fertile window graph, you will see how this chance of getting pregnant is higher in these particular days and plenty of studies confirm this.
These are the most fertile days and the window is roughly eight days long. Some people say I have a short fertile window, I have a long fertile window – in reality it’s a probability distribution so it doesn’t depend on them, it’s really how the studies have been made the chances are always the same and they are best 2, 3, 4 days before ovulation.
