IVF is not the answer for recurrent miscarriage. However, if the recurrrent miscarriage is unexplained so all the investigations are failed to demonstrate cause of the miscarriage, it is possible to use IVF to genetically screen the embryos and attempt to transfer only genetically competent (genetically normal) embryos. Equally IVF could be the answer if either of the partners (female or male) could be found to have a genetic factor that would increase the risk of miscarriage. So IVF can be employed in couples experiencing miscarriages either because either of them has got an underlying genetic factor or because all the investigations have failed to demonstrate any obvious causes of miscarriage and the last thing that is left to investigate is the embryos.
