How can we deal with OHSS syndrome?

During the process of ovarian stimulation it is recommended to drink lots of water for the medication to be washed out from the body. Would that be sufficient precaution to avoid risk of OHSS or make it milder?

The key thing, if we think about it in terms of that severity – so from mild forms of OHSS – it’s often conservative management – just waiting and seeing it or resolving on its own. If it starts to become more severe, we can think about using some different drugs to be able to try to reduce the severity of that. Predicting it or in some very severe cases where there’s fluids within your tummy or fluids within your chest, we can drain that. We can obviously do that in the OHSS patients but in many situations patients actually get admitted to hospital just to monitor them a bit more closely and make sure that they don’t deteriorate further. Across the world, what we’re seeing is really OHHS is now very rare and actually, the key is the preventative strategy is not having to manage the complication once you get it.
