What is the main cause of PCOS?

The reason is unknown till now. Hormonal imbalance that accompanies ladies with PCOS appears to be running in families. Is there something that could trigger PCOS?

It is a complex problem. There are some genetic predispositions. Quite often a PCOS patient has PCOS mother or some specific sign in father: some insulin resistance in a lot of family members, so it is partially hereditary. Second point, should be some influence of environment – very important what is the diet of this woman, so if she has very healthy diet, like mediterranean for example, probably she will not develop PCOS or for example, she will have time to time, not regular cycle and that’s it but if she will gain like 20, 30, 40 extra kilo this circle will be close. Circle is closed because high body mass index, insulin resistance, androgen level increase abdominal obesity, increase insulin resistance and produce more androgens and the ovary stopped working, so this is the question. A lot of things may influence but both are important: environment and genetics.
In some populations PCOS may be detected like 50 even more percent of women because in this population women traditionally have more high body mass index, not move a lot and probably hereditary also. In some populations it is more rare for example.

This is a good question and the honest answer is that we don’t really know. The majority of women seem to notice that they may have some elements of PCOS, for example, when they stop the pill, perhaps when they start to try and conceive and realise that their periods aren’t coming back regularly. But we don’t actually know that necessarily the reason why it’s caused other than the fact that we know it’s due to a hormonal condition and the presence of cysts on the ovaries.

Women are born with a tendency to develop PCOS, I try to understand it to myself how this thing works and my conclusion is that it is an over-reactive stage of the ovary. So, the ovary is in a condition that is standard when it has a specific condition, let’s say at the beginning of the cycle. When there is PCO, this ovary is much more activated, has much more antral follicles, let’s put it like that. Something else that I noticed that all those years, I noticed that women with PCO have periods in their life where the PCO is not and they have better lives where the PCO condition is a huge problem. So, I also understood that it is exactly like endometriosis with “flare-ups” and “calmings” the endometriosis. So, I don’t know but I do have the feeling that it is related to the origin so, for example, Indian origin, Arabic origin for some reason they have more chances for PCO. Especially with Indian women it’s very characteristic but what I know is related to this but I cannot say if the environment is very important for the condition of the PCO. If you ask me the general state of the woman is important – when this woman is stressed, she is going through a bad period of her life, everything is bad in her life, then probably PCO it’s much worse.
