What I can expect after the endometrial scratch in terms of effects?

Endometrial scratching, also known as the endometrial biopsy, is a procedure that may be useful in IVF treatment. But is it recommended for everybody? What does it look like and what is the reason for using this technique?

Well, when we do the endometrial scratch, we have to do it on the previous cycle, so we do it basically on the luteal phase (the second phase of the cycle) of the previous cycle that we are going to use for an embryo transfer. So that’s how we do it. Of course the last effect will be on the next period while preparing the endometrium we see if the scratch did have a good effect on it.

An endometrial scratch effect following studies shows that it can last up to two months. Usually, we often practice for one month. What do we expect after scratching; usually it is not painful, usually we do not observe any bleeding but very little spots of blood can be present so that is not a problem. During our preparation for this procedure, we check if there are no inflammations in the vagina, we make the smears just to exclude them to prevent infection and contamination in the uterus.
