The first thing that you must know is that if you succeed, you are going to be pregnant, not ill. That means that as a pregnant woman probably you are going to be able to do many things that you usually do, and as a pregnant woman, you can still exercise, and in fact, we do recommend patients who are pregnant to do some exercise. The intensity and the type of the exercise can be different, we don’t recommend sports in which there is a really high impact like tennis, paddling, or things like that, but walking, hiking, swimming, riding on a static bicycle,  these are kinds of things that you can do.

If you go to the gym, you can do Pilates, you can do Yoga. There are probably some exercises that you may not be allowed to do, but that’s something that you have to discuss with your trainer and then decide which are the things that you can do and things or the positions that you should avoid.

Remember, you are going to be pregnant, not ill. You can live a pretty normal life. Working out is one of the best things that you can do because it’s going to reinforce your backbone,  which is going to suffer a bit during pregnancy.

Well actually right now we have pretty good scientific evidence that I can send our patients to play a tennis game after an embryo transfer, if they want because as we were telling before, it won’t affect our success rate badly of course, we don’t actually say that. The thing is that walking is good of course, it’s good running. Actually it won’t affect implantation, so a decent and healthy lifestyle – would be the best thing to do after the embryo transfer. So, if you are used to walking, walking is good or doing anything that can put your brain and your conscience into someplace else. Because, the thing is that, we have to wait till the analyses of the blood test, the pregnancy test and that takes time, so it’s better, if they can do whatever they used to do and if walking or exercising is one of those things – i’m okay with that.

After an embryo transfer, you don’t need to stay in bed the whole time. You can work, you can climb, but you don’t need to lift heavy weights or things like that, but you can go; don’t worry.

You can normally walk after embryo transfer. I cannot tell you to walk in the same afternoon. But you can walk if you need to go home, it’s not necessary to take a taxi. During the next days after embryo transfer, I don’t recommend sports. You can run if you want to e.g. catch a bus, but it’s not good to run 20 kilometers just because you usually do it twice a week. So runnning is not recommended, but if you are running 20 meters, because you need to catch a bus or tram, it’s not a problem. If for you it’s usual to run 20 kilometers twice a week, you will have to wait five days after transfer, and then you can continue as usual. So one week, you will be without running.

Because of the medication and during the early pregnancy, the patient will feel that her physical capacity is a little bit decreased. During pregnancy also, the most important thing is not to push yourself too much. If you don’t have any dyspnea or coughing during the exercise, you can walk. Your body will tell you when to stop and if you feel anything like coughing, dyspnea, thirst for air, in this case, you have to stop.

Walking is a very good activity for after embryo transfer.  Go at your own pace and rest if you start to feel tired or breathless.
