Do ovulation tests work on day of ovulation?

Ovulation is the process in which a mature egg is being released from the ovary into the fallopian tube. As with all tasks in the human body, it is controlled by the brain and to be exact by the pituitary gland which controls the release of reproductive hormones.

You can observe your fertility indicators or you can look at your ovulation organization predictor kit test result to see when you are going to ovulate but you can only really confirm ovulation in a couple of different ways.
Some sensors have the ability to confirm ovulation so if you’re using a sensor to identify when your fertile time is, you may be able to use a sensor that will confirm ovulation for you but also you can confirm ovulation by having a blood test. Traditionally this blood test is called a day 21 progesterone test but it’s really important to know that it’s only accurate of taken on day 21 of the 28 day cycle so if your cycle is shorter or longer than 28 then you would need to move the data that test around a little bit to get confirmation that ovulation has occurred. It’s important to remember that none of these identifiers of ovulation are 100% accurate so it’s really good to get to know your body and to look out for the natural indicators and the signs that you are ovulating and you are fertile yourself.

The release of the egg from the ovary takes place after hormonal changes have been established in the body so there is a hormone that is called LH which can be detected. The surge of the LH hormone is what leads to the release of the egg. The surge of the LH can be detected before the release of the egg takes place and that can be done about 24 -36 hours before the actual event of the ovulation.
If the cycle and the overall menstruation is not regular, then it is quite difficult to make sure that every month we have the same days when the release of the egg takes place and hence when the LH surge is detectable.

Yes, so the typical misconception is that ovulation tests test for ovulation but it’s actually not true. Ovulation test tests for hormone levels and it’s very well known that the hormones are high or reach a peak the day before ovulation.
It’s a hormone peak what you’re measuring and because it’s well known that the ovum is released 12 to 48 hours afterwards then you can have an estimation – typically 24 hours – that’s what we say. Right, so the ovulation tests are really not ovulation tests – they are hormone tests – they identify the peak and they basically let you know that the next day is ovulation day so when the test is positive, you know that ovulation is coming pretty much.
