IUI it is more successful. Why? Firstly the sperm is washed therefore you get rid of all the debris, sometimes we also inject protein to boost the sperm activity. The motility improves, the morphology sometimes gets better and we make sure that the actual number of sperm is optimal to use. We would be happy with a number around 10 million motile sperm and we inject it at the time of ovulation, very high in the fundus of the uterus, very close to the tubal ostia so it is really getting the sperm as close as possible to the actual egg which is waiting to be fertilised in the tube. So the actual distance is more reduced and we have much more healthy sperm which is of higher quality whether it be in terms of number, motility or normal forms.
