They are pretty accurate nowadays as we have the POSEIDON criteria which includes the age of the patient and includes the Antral Follicle Count and the AMH level. By combining those three, we have a decent and accurate data collection of ovarian reserve so we can trust these three points.

I think AMH tests as a blood test, they’re accurate enough but it can’t be just done on its own. You can’t just come away with a blood test and say “oh I’ve got a low ovarian reserve” – you need the Antral Follicle count scan as well and you need to look at the whole history – I mean a woman might be anemic, she might have thyroid issues – there’s all sorts of other factors going on. It needs to have a proper consultation and a proper range of tests.

About this question:

Is ovarian reserve testing accurate?

Tests measuring hormone levels are indicator only and can only suggest what are the potentials of a woman’s “ovarian reserve”. To estimate precisely, age and Antral Follicle count is needed to take into account but those tests and scans can only give information about chances only.
