Some egg banks and some clinics use facial matching in order to match the donor, the phenotype of the donor and the intended parents as much as possible. That basically looks at some algorithm of different characteristics of the donor and the intended parents. At the moment Cryos is not providing that service but we are hoping to do so soon.

What is the difference between facial recognition and facial matching? Both procedures, both softwares are usually mistaken to be the same but their goals different. Let’s explain this with an example. Imagine identical twins. If we apply facial recognition software to these twins, like an app for unlocking the smartphone (face ID), it will look for any differences between the twins in order to select whether the person scanned is the right person and, in the case of the face app, unlock the smartphone.

Facial matching is completely the opposite. If we run facial matching software on twins, the software will be looking for similarities between the twins and it will give us a score on their resemblance. As you can see there are different goals and they cannot be intertwined. Our tool, Fenomatch runs facial software based on AI. We help doctors and embryologists to make a decision based on this resemblance.
