Where does a clinic get the donor eggs from?

Donating eggs and receiving donor eggs is a highly regulated process. Egg donation is treated with the same care as donating organs so the donors can be properly screened, tested and taken care of.

In Cryos our donors come from a variety of ethnicities and we usually provide information, public information, through articles, through facebook, through instagram, through seminars and webinars at universities and through this information and providing that what the donors are, for why their gametes are so important, how they can help families dreams come true – we have volunteers that come forward and apply to Cryos to become an egg or sperm donor. They, of course, go through a very rigorous testing and screening process to make sure that they meet the criteria that we have and then, once they meet that criteria, they then become donors that donate either their eggs or sperm.

It is more difficult to find all phenotypes, for example, black skin donors in Ukraine – it is not usual. We try to search in students community, in some cases, we asking from agency so yes, it is more difficult to find asian phenotype and in this matter we collaborating with Kazakhstan, with Thailand so, it is more easy but of course the most of our donor has more or less my appearance because this is the general view of our population.

We can face two different situations. A clinic can have its own bank of gametes or the clinic can work with an external egg bank and the bank will be the one providing the gametes. In both cases, the criteria of choosing donors should be the same and all the data should encrypted in case of anonymity. We are aware of this so Fenomatch has been developed to connect egg banks and clinics and to make the data as safe as possible. We can help the embryologists and doctors during the process and provide them with the best arguments on how to choose the best donor for the patient.
