The things that you can do after the transfer is more related to the effort that you need to do. Let’s say that you have an obese patient who has difficulties moving and walking, then obviously climbing stairs could be a really difficult issue and would fill in the category of strong physical efforts.

However, if you are in a normal condition, and you are healthy, climbing the stairs is not a problem, as long as you don’t run, that’s fine. There is nothing wrong with the fact that you go up and down, it’s good exercise.

Well, no. As we were talking about this earlier – no, climbing stairs is not harmful for the embryo or for the patient. So, actually there is nothing wrong with that. They can do it without any problem.

With regard to climbing stairs, yes, you can do it. If you have a lift or stairs in front of you, you can use the lift. It’s not that I’d like to overdo it, just the same principle applies here: just take it easy. However, if there are no lifts and you have to climb the stairs, of course you can do it. As I said before, there is no bed rest, there is a normal activity. However, climbing the stairs swiftly or very rushed is not recommended because it puts a little bit of pressure on you. Do not forget that during that time you’re having also progesterone supplementation and it maybe makes you a little bit lazy or a little bit sleepy. So overdoing things might make you feel that you need more effort than when you do it normally.

The other part of the question is: can you exercise? Of course, you can do exercises. As I said, you can do walking, you can do a gentle sort of swimming, you can have pilates, you can do yoga – all this is recommended. Obviously, what is not recommended is lifting very heavyweights, some extensive cycling exercises and anything having to do with direct contact with your body, like boxing or judo. We have to be sensible basically. So yes, you can have exercise, but keep it in a more comfortable zone for you. Do not over-push it.

No, there is no harm doing that. Maybe you can feel uncomfortable if you have had your pick up a couple of days before because of the ovaries (they are sensible) but climbing the stairs is not an issue for the implantation.

All normal daily activities do not pose any problem. If you live on the second floor, and you would like to go upstairs, it’s no problem. I only recommend avoiding sports activities. But normal activities like walking, working, travelling by bus, shopping are not a problem. If you are living on the 10th floor, and it’s usual for you to use stairs, you can continue with this activity.

Always, it depends on which floor you live on. If you live on the 10th floor, always take the elevator. But if you live, for example, on the first floor, or the second floor, and you won’t have any problem doing this physical activity of climbing, you can take the steps. There can only one problem during early pregnancy. If you see any slight bleeding, spotting, you have to avoid any kind of physical strain until the bleeding stops.

Maintain your normal daily activities. Take care of your physical health and mental health. We always encourage patients to have a normal life. For physical activity, walking is okay, but for swimming and others, we are always advising patients to wait until the blood test. After the blood test, you’re allowed to go swimming. So swimming and walking are two physical activities that we encourage the patients to do.

Climbing stairs is not harmful at all, and exercise is indicated in fact. If you feel that, you feel a benefit from exercising, absolutely, carry on with your routine. Have more gentle exercise in particular if this is a fresh embryo transfer, primarily not to cause any harm to the ovaries. But any kind of exercise running, cycling is fine. Swimming probably should be avoided at the beginning, because of the risk of infection, but there is no specific exercise indicated to maintain the embryo inside the womb.

You have to think that when you don’t have IVF, when people conceive naturally, they don’t even know that they are pregnant, and they just do the normal life until they find out on the day of the pregnancy test, and then even that they would continue. So yes, if there are no obvious problems, bleeding, pain, any issues, then I would say it’s perfectly reasonable and recommended.

A normal flight of stairs should not be harmful after embryo transfer, however bear in mind that you should try to avoid extremely strenuous activity in the days after embryo transfer.  Walk up the stairs rather than jog or run, and take a break to catch your breath if required.

After the embryo transfer you can have a normal life, you can do normal activities, so you can go upstairs, go down, do exercise (not very extreme exercise but you can do), you can go to the gym, you can go upstairs, down and it doesn’t have any effect on the embryo implantation and the embryo is not going to go out the uterus once it’s inside. So in a normal pregnancy, in a normal implantation, you are doing a normal life without perhaps knowing that you are pregnant and it doesn’t have any effect on the result of the embryo transfer.

No, not at all. The embryo won’t go out easily so you can climb up the stairs and even do sports. It’s not gonna make a difference on the embryo itself so you can just keep on going. Don’t worry about it, the embryo is safe in the uterus and won’t go out easily.
